If (just) staying in the league gives what the owners see as an adequate return on investment and a sustainable long term business model, the just staying in the league is all they will aim (and pay) for - anything above that is bunce, unexpected and unbudgeted for free money for them.

I don't like that approach, I suspect YOU don't like that approach, and I suspect anyone who truly supports a football club doesn't like that approach, but, ever since the Premier League was formed, this was only going to be the outcome - Football as a Business - FaaB.

It's long since it was the product - today it's a billboard for a multitude of other products, and these have a vested interest in keeping the game (sic) as it is today - unless they can find ways of using it to squeeze even more money out of Joe fucking Public (YOU & ME).

We will never break the champions league spots or challenge for the title, a cup is our only chance of success. None of this staying in the league crap every year.

Are we even interested in trying to win trophies after a 37 year wait? Whats the point in being in the game if you dont want to try and win trophies.

No I was fucking annoyed just like I am after any shit performance.

Just feel the tone of this thread by some is more of a dig at the new manager rather than disappointment at being knocked out of the cup.

I get the feeling that after the good performance and result at Stoke some people on here were just waiting for a bad result and performance to justify their displeasure at the manager/board.

I have never seen us win a trophy in 33 years of following West Ham so everytime we play in a cup competition we should be 100 percent committed. If we don't do the same against Shrewsbury then I will be pissed off.

I am still quite disappointed, made more so by seeing this morning that Bristol City won.

My mate is from Weston-super-mare and I wanted to draw them in the last couple rounds.

Also proves that "even if we won we would have drawn Man U or Man City and had to play two games before losing" rubbish was not quite as ironclad as some poster made it seem.
